Lipstick is one of the most essential fashion accessories required by every woman nowadays. Even if you are not much into makeup, you cannot do without lipstick. Unfortunately everybody does not know how to apply lipstick correctly. But if you are one of those struggling artists, your worries are over. We are here to help you master it. Follow the tips which are given below and within a few days you will learn to apply lipstick perfectly like a professional.

What You Require

  1. Lip scrub or a baby toothbrush
  2. Lip balm
  3. A lip liner
  4. Concealer
  5. Lip primer
  6. Compact powder
  7. Your favourite lipstick

Step 1: Exfoliate Your Lips

In order to remove dry, dead, chapped skin, exfoliate your lips with a natural scrub like sugar or moisturizing oils. You can also use a damp baby tooth brush to do the job. Exfoliate your lips once or twice a week to keep them soft and healthy.

Step 2: Use a Lip Balm

After exfoliating use a lip balm to hydrate your lips.

Step 3: Apply a Lip Primer

Apply a lip primer to avoid creasing and bleeding of lips. It will also help the lip colour to stay longer.

Step 4: Apply a Base

If your lips are discoloured or you have uneven lip line, don’t worry. You can use a base to correct it. Take a concealer shade matching your lip colour and with the help of a small flat brush, apply a small amount of it on the lips. Then apply some compact powder to seal the base.

Step 5: Use a Lip Liner

For more definition, use a lip liner which will also reshape and perfect the contour of your lips. The colour of the lip liner should match your natural lip colour not the colour of the lipstick which you are going to apply. With the liner trace your natural lip line from one corner to another. Just below the Cupid’s bow, draw an ‘x’ shape on your upper lip to make it more prominent.

Step 6: Apply the Lipstick

Well, now for the real thing. Apply your favourite lipstick, either straight from the tube or with the help of a brush. Apply carefully to your Cupid’s bow, inner corners and bottom of the lip. Ensure that you apply within the boundary of your lined lips. Apply coat to intensify the colour as you like.

Step 7: Finishing Touches

  • Blot your lips with a facial tissue paper to remove any excess lip colour; otherwise it may stain your teeth.
  • Use a small amount of concealer to correct any mistakes like smudged edges. This will give a cleaner look.

Steps to Remove Lipstick

Correct method to remove lipstick is as important as its application. While removing lipstick, we must always keep in mind that we do not damage or dry out our lips in the process.

Following are some simple and safe methods to remove lipstick:

First Method: Apply Coconut Oil or Olive Oil

Coconut oil or olive oil is the best natural makeup remover. Dab some of the coconut/olive oil onto your lips and with the help of cotton swab gently wipe away.

Second Method: Use Vaseline

Apply some Vaseline onto your lips and leave it for 2 to 3 minutes. Then use a cotton swab or a soft cotton hand towel to wipe away the lipstick.

Third Method: Use Any Face or Body Lotion

If by chance you don’t have Vaseline or coconut oil, you can either use a face or body lotion. Gently massage a little of the lotion on your lips and keep it as such for a few minutes. Then wipe it off with a soft towel or cotton swab.
